Teenonlinedating dating events for older singles

At least that’s what teens said in a recent story about online romance in the student newspaper at my daughters’ suburban Maryland high school.

According to that story, “students initiate relationships online to meet new people, avoid stressful in-person meetings and hide their dating lives from their parents.” That’s certainly the case for some kids, according to my 17-year-old.

They use these popular sites as a way to meet other teens who have similar interests, and get to know them initially without the pressure that can come with actively pursuing a relationship.

Some of the best places online to meet other teens aren't actually labeled as dating sites; instead, they are geared toward socializing and meeting other people with similar interests.

It’s no secret that teenagers are keen and able users of the internet, and with the continued growth and ever evolving trends in social media and social networking it looks like things are not set to change anytime in the near future.

A recent survey conducted by the Australian Communications and Media Authority revealed that the vast majority of eight to 17 year-olds had accessed the Internet in the last four weeks, with figures reflecting 95 percent usage between the 8 to 11 year olds, and 100 percent usage amongst the 16-17 year olds.

Despite the fact that for the majority of these adolescents the main social networking sites which provide opportunity to meet people remain the likes of Facebook, My Space, Twitter and Instagram, there is a small emergence of teens, as young as 13, who are now adding hook up, chat rooms, and dating sites to those that they visit.

Whether you think teen online dating is safe or not, it is virtually impossible to forbid your teenagers from doing it.

All you can really do is supervise and stay involved in whom they are talking to.

My budding romance depended on whether I heard the shrill ring of an old-fashioned land-line phone. The social lives of today’s teens don’t revolve around waiting for their phones to ring.

Teens are much more likely to connect with each other through some form of social media, whether it’s Twitter, Instagram or matchmaking apps such as Tinder and Hot Or Not.Tumblr began as a platform for micro-blogs and has evolved into the number one social media network for teens.
